Arnett Carraby, M.D. - Biography

Arnett Carraby, MDA native of Los Angeles, California, Dr. Arnett Carraby was highly motivated, energetic and optimistic early in his life. He had a six-year perfect attendance record in junior and senior high schools. In high school he was president of the math, science and chess clubs and captain of the varsity tennis team. He pursued his undergraduate college education at Harvard University and Occidental College in Los Angeles where he graduated cum laude with honors in biochemistry.

He matriculated at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine and obtained his M.D. degree with honors. Dr. Carraby went on to the prestigious University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Hospital & Clinics and completed a residency in Ophthalmology. Further studies in ophthalmology were also completed at Stanford University School of Medicine, Wills Eye Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition to his busy ophthalmology practice and numerous civic, community and professional activities and committees; Dr. Carraby has been teaching residents, medical students and physicians at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology at UCLA School of Medicine where he is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. He is a past president of the Charles R. Drew Medical Society (1996 & 1997), national delegate with the National Medical Association, past Chairman of the Surgery Department and Vice-Chief of Staff at Bay Harbor Hospital in California. Dr. Carraby was a recipient of an America's Top Ophthalmologists Award from the Consumer Research Council of America in 2002.

A man of many interests and talents; besides being a movie and sports enthusiast, his hobbies include reading, bicycling, traveling, painting with acrylics and playing tennis. He resides in Hobbs, New Mexico with his wife and daughter.
